INTERCULTURAL FOR SAFETY
CREATION OF A SOCIAL NETWORK FOR THE INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE.
General objective.
The main objective of the project is to encourage the promotion and the definition of methodologies of peer education, in order to enable young people to understand consciously issues of cultural inclusion. Furthermore, the project will encourage the creation of a shared instrument allowing the development of an education to the coexistence and social cohesion, respecting the principle of legality and safety. A project aiming to raise young people awareness on this sensitive issue is certainly more effective than a direct action with their trainers (professors, teachers or parents) because shared training carried out between "peers" makes a direct comparison on issues not easily understandable and is not perceived as an imposition “top down”, encouraging and facilitating participation in the discussion.
The understanding of cognitive and communication processes between young people from different cultures will be done through the creation of a constructive dialogue between citizens of the local community of Vercelli. We will address young people aged 15 to 25.
The complexity of these processes cannot be separated from a balanced involvement of immigrants and Italian citizens. Cultural integration cannot and should not be limited to the inclusion of "strangers" and thus "absorption" of one culture into another but rather to ensure an aware growth of the community and to enhance cultural diversity.
The choice of young people aged 15-25 as target group is determined by its function of forge of social reality and its complexity in which, more than in other areas of education, individuals are called to live together and play an active role within the educational cycle.
The activity planned will be preceded by a qualitative and quantitative research to assess in detail the needs and the methods for assessing and defining the characteristics of the beneficiaries involved in order to create a solid foundations to structure the intervention.
Specific objectives.
• To analyse, from a qualitative point of view, the cultural characteristics of the communities belonging to the area of the Municipality of Vercelli.
• To develop new skills for the management of intercultural processes in the territory, by creating a system of guidelines for the management of intercultural processes, to be applied primarily in the local context, but transferable and adaptable in a broader context, in order to manage the tensions arising from the lack of mutual understanding and to promote a system designed to the safety of its citizens.
• To identify knowledge and experience in the management of intercultural processes, enhancing daily life in relation to the management of interculture.
• To build a virtuous system of communication and shared management of issues of primary importance, possibly through the creation of a multimedia forum allowing the exchange of ideas and knowledge between Italian citizens and foreigners, the promotion of peer education, as well as activities of mediation and prevention of social and cultural conflicts.
• To create a national network to exchange best practices and skills acquired during the project.
• To develop a pilot project on the territory easily to be replicated using both a more informal (Internet channel) and a more formal setting, i. e. consultations and face-to-face peer education facilities.
• To develop and manage an innovative system that allows the direct comparison, following the style of the modern social networks, to promote cultural integration and to create the right humus on the territory for the construction of a better civic sense aimed at creating a common security process.
