PARAROWING

Para-rowing project wants to to contribute to the development of the European dimension in sport for disabled people, in line with the general objective of the Programme in the sport field: promote social inclusion, equal opportunities and awareness of the importance of health-enhancing physical activity, through increased participation in, and equal access to sport for all.

In particular, the project, by means of its activities directed towards disabled people will:

  • support the implementation of the EU Disability Strategy;
  • support the implementation of the EU Physical Activity Guidelines, to encourage participation in sport and physical activity.

At systemic level, Para-rowing project will expect to contribute to the development of the European dimension in sport for disabled people, in line with the general objective of the Programme in the sport field.

From an individual’s perspective, “Para-rowing party” project will lead to increased levels of participation in sport and physical activity.

Among sports for disable people, para-rowing is a unique activity in its ability to be suitable for a wide range of physical, sensory or intellectual disabilities with different levels in disability severity. Moreover  rowing itself, was the first sport to start a process of actual integration of the disabled with non-disabled peers. , sharing the universal values of sport, both on the training ground and in everyday life.

The project objectives will be achieved by the organisation of a web discovery to detect the platforms (forums, blogs, magazines, communities, FB pages, Twitter accounts, etc.) most used by young disabled people; organisation of a medical seminar and a press conference, organisation of the “Para-rowing party” in each participating country, follow up of the activities.

Participants in the “Para-rowing party” will learn the basic elements of the sport, and all participants experience the same thrill.

The project is implemented in Italy, France and UK.
